Spring! Spring! Spring!

I ordered these ties for young master Memphys last week from a cute little vendor selling on ETSY called petite peanut. I thought they were super cute, and we are rounding the corner out of RSV season so I just might make an appearance at church...
Don't they make you think of spring? I am so ready for it!

Speaking of spring it brings this question to my mind
To Garden or Not To Garden?
Gardening is an extremely popular hobby around the world. You can get a lot of satisfaction out of becoming more self-reliant, and growing healthier yummier food for your family. This year I have been working on becoming more self-reliant, I actually started last year working on our food storage, canning things and I also made baby food.

“To become self-reliant, a person must work. Work is
physical, mental, or spiritual effort. It is a basic source
of happiness, self-worth, and prosperity. Through work,
people accomplish many good things in their lives. . . .

“As people become self-reliant, they are better prepared
to endure adversities” and are “better able to care for others
in need.”

Church Handbook of Instructions

So this year since my garden totally sucked last year and I only grew Cilantro, Kohl Rabi, a few cucumbers and strawberries I am going to start a little early. For my back up plan I am going to help with our ward garden. Super exciting!

There are Benefits of Gardening...
Delicious, organic produce at relatively cheap prices
Can plan to grow enough to preserve your own foods, like canning! I love it!
Good exercise for you, good chores for the kids, but my son is way to small this year to be of any help.
There are also Downsides of Gardening...
Can be expensive initially
You only get results if you put in the time and effort
Things can go wrong that are out of your control, like weeds and squash bugs! Once you get the bugs you pretty much cant get rid of them!

I tried starting my garden from seeds last year and didn't have much luck....
I had a sneaky little mouse in the garage that ate all the leaves off my tiny little plants therefore it did not work.

So.. This year I think I will try it again, but I will be keeping the lid on my little greenhouse. I purchased a seed started kit from Home Depot last year for under 10 dollars so I think I will be going there to look again.
I was a little over-zealous last year so I think I will start smaller this year and Maybe try a salsa garden...

Happy planting!
